What is mentoring?

Classical Greek literature tells the story of Odysseus, who, when he left to fight in the Trojan Wars, left his son in the charge of Mentor, his house-keeper.  Mentor educated Telemachus in every facet of life; physical, intellectual, moral, spiritual and social.

The term Mentor is used to describe a person who acts as a teacher, coach, taskmaster, confidant and friend.

Mentoring programmes

Since 1995, we have been running a number of successful mentoring schemes, pairing local school pupils with employees from a wide spectrum of companies. Through the scheme.

Young people are able to increase their effectiveness and familiarise themselves with the standards expected in the work place.

Employees have the ideal opportunity to practice essential workplace skills such as coaching and listening.

Employers can consider mentoring as a development tool within their own organisations, as a means of developing coaching and counselling skills in their staff.

Programmes include:

  • Level 2/3
Aimed at supporting sixth form students through their difficult exam years, and increasing motivation and level of achievement.  Mentors from Prudential were involved.

CBEBP is a member of the National Mentoring Network.
