We are currently delivering a project called Generations Together alongside Age Concern Berkshire and Reading Borough Council. It is a government funded initiative that is aimed at under 25’s and over 50’s, to help them engage with each other on community based projects.
One of our most successful projects Helping Hands has recruited over 600 volunteers,
bringing together 9 different primary schools and their communities across Reading. The students were set the challenge of photographing an older persons hand in a way that showed something that young and older people have in common but also telling a story behind these hands.
The Generations Together project has created great media interest including both the Times Educational Supplement and BBC Radio Berkshire.
The Festival of Ages will take place between Saturday 2nd and Saturday 9th October with a celebration evening on the first Saturday. This is an opportunity for the Generations Together team to thank everyone who has supported the project and encourage the young and older communities to join together to experience new and exciting things.
Please keep an eye on our website for further details.
We have a variety of different events running all over Reading that you could still get involved with, including cricket, archery, community choir to name a few. If you would like to get involved or find out more information please contact Andrew Haydon on 0118 984 6947 or email andrew.haydon@cbebp.co.uk
